Curt Metzgar is a director in the Ontario office and is the office’s managing director. He has been practicing with the firm since December, 1986. Mr. Metzgar has practiced primarily in the areas of non-auto liability insurance coverage, bad faith and appeals.
In the area of insurance coverage, he has authored thousands of coverage opinions, prosecuted hundreds of declaratory relief actions and represented insurers in scores of trials and inter-company arbitrations relating to insurance coverage, duty to defend, indemnity and contribution under both personal and commercial lines policies. He also provides transactional advice to insurers in all aspects of liability claim handling and has handled hundreds of Cumis fee disputes, including many Civil Code section 2860 arbitrations.
In the area of bad faith, Mr. Metzgar has handled numerous claims and suits alleging breach of contract and breach of implied covenant against both first and third party insurers. He has also handled dozens of appeals relating to insurance issues and has at least five published decisions, including one with the California Supreme Court.
Mr. Metzgar was admitted to the California bar in 1986. He is member of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, and is admitted to practice before all California state and federal courts as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Metzgar is a member of the Southern California Association of Defense Counsel.
